Line Managers and Supervisors Health & Safety Roles and Responsibilities Workshop

 

The aim of this workshop, when used in conjunction with the WORKSAFE GB Ltd  Line Managers and Supervisors Health & Safety Roles and Responsibilities workbook, is to give Line Managers and Supervisors an understanding of current health and safety legislation and how it applies to their own workplace and work activities.

 

The workshop is very interactive and designed to assist organisations of all sizes.  It will give Line Managers and Supervisors an understanding of their health and safety duties and responsibilities and an understanding of what actions they are required to take to fulfil these duties and responsibilities.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of Line Managers and Supervisors.

  • Show why organisations must take Health & Safety seriously.

  • Give an understanding of the fundamentals of The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

  • Give an understanding of what a Health & Safety Policy is and what the Policy expects Line Managers and Supervisors to do.

  • Ensure Line Managers and Supervisors are aware of their own Company Health & Safety forms i.e. inspection checklists etc and how to use them.

  • Give an understanding of how to undertake a Toolbox Talk.

  • Give an understanding of what Health and Safety Regulations are.

  • Give an understanding of what Approved Codes of Practice and Guidance Notes are.

  • Give an understanding of the importance of The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR) 1999.

  • Give an understanding of risk assessments and what information they should they contain.

  • Give an understanding of who are the Enforcing Authorities and what their powers are.

  • Know what questions HSE Inspectors will ask they come onto your premises to investigate an accident.

 

On completion of the workshop delegates will be better able to:

  • Understand current health & safety legislation.

  • Understand what their health & safety roles and responsibilities are.

  • Understand what actions they are required to undertake for them to comply with their organisation’s Health & Safety Policy.

Line Managers and Supervisors.  In fact, everyone should be aware of their own health and safety responsibilities and how health and safety legislation apply to them and to their own organisation.

Agenda ( 1 Day Workshop )

 

Role Play or Scenario:

 

Delegates will be informed of an accident that has injured an employee and has had to be reported to the HSE under RIDDOR.  The role play will consist of the HSE inspector arriving on site and interviewing the Supervisor responsible for the injured employee.

This scenario will allow the delegates to understand what their role is in ensuring employees work safely.

The Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974:

 

Duties of employers and employees.

General duties.

Duties – absolute, practicable, reasonably practicable.

Health and Safety Regulations.

 

What are they and examples of specific Regulations.

What are they and what information do they provide?

Delegates will go through their Company’s health & Safety forms i.e. workplace inspection forms etc. that they need to be aware of and how to correctly use the forms.

How a Toolbox talk should be undertaken and what information it should contain.

 

Complacency and how it can affect health & safety.

 

Individual and organisational safety.

 

 

All delegates will receive a workbook which includes current HSE information and a certificate of attendance.
